Live Online Course:

Full Standing Figure

OCTOBER 9-12 (Wednesday-Saturday) and NOVEMBER 10,2024(SUNDAY)

10 am - 2 pm / All levels

Limited spaces available

I am excited to share this new cycle of my classic full-figure program. Throughout 4 days of live demonstrations and daily feedback reinforced by prerecorded material, students will create a clay figure out of slabs using a simple armature and patterns.

Students will then work independently throughout the rest of the month with ongoing e-mail support before reconvening for an online show and tell.

The full set of videos is yours to keep forever. All patterns and diagrams will be available to download through 2024. All live demos will be pre-recorded if you can't make the class.

What you'll get: encouragement, guidance and accountability

  • You will receive a virtual kit with scaled photographic views, patterns for the entire body, additional references, and diagrams to support your sculpting for three different female figures.
  • More than 25 concise, pre-recorded video tutorials on the entire figure to reinforce live demonstrations, yours to keep forever.
  • 14 hours of live demonstrations and co-sculpting via Zoom (Wednesday-Saturday)
  • Daily personalized feedback from Cristina on your progress to troubleshoot and answer any questions.
  • Additional feedback via photos (see below) during the independent work period (October 12- November 10).

How this will work:

Upon enrollment, you will have access to a list of tools and supplies needed to build your armature, prepare your patterns and references and get ready for the first day of class.

Although we include tiled versions of the reference posters we recommend taking the references folder to your local print shop to have the posters printed in large format printers without the need for tiling. Use the measurement keys in each image to make sure all are printed at the right size!

*Tiled images are PDF documents that break down a large image into standard printer size units, allowing you to print and puzzle them together at home.

BONUS MATERIAL!

In addition to the original set of patterns for Figure A (see below), I will be offering patterns and reference materials to sculpt 2 additional models(B & C). All of these are yours to keep and try as you grasp the technique. Please note that although the pre-recorded material and written instructions reflect the construction of different (yet similar) standing figure the techniques and construction protocols are exactly the same for the development of all the figures utilizing the different sets of patterns and photographic references.

I will be demonstrating the construction of FIGURE C throughout our live Zoom meetings. You are free to sculpt and receive live feedback on any of the three model options you choose to work on throughout our time together.

SEPTEMBER 7: The instructions for the following steps will be uploaded onto our Virtual Classroom at cristinacordova.teachable.com in the curriculum of LIVE VIRTUAL Full Standing Figure Course.

  • Establishing your workspace
  • Printing and preparing your photographic references and patterns
  • Building a simple armature
  • Making slabs and cutting patterns for base and figure

You will have a month to complete them before class. You are welcome to communicate with me via e-mail with any questions as you work through these steps independently, leading up to our first day of class. I will be with you at every turn!

OCTOBER 8 (Tuesday): You will receive a Zoom link for our daily gatherings along with access to the first set of videos on our curriculum by 4pm EST.

The set of videos (morning and afternoon) pertaining to each day will be released by 4 pm on the previous day. The idea is that these videos can be viewed before class so that students can ask questions, clarify their understandings, and prepare themselves to complete that part of the process throughout the day.

OCTOBER 9-12 (Wednesday-Saturday) :

  • 10 am EST

We will meet at 10 am daily via our Zoom link to introduce each other (the first day) and go over any questions or comments regarding the pre-recorded demonstrations for the morning session. On the second day of class (Wednesday), we’ll start adding a quick show and tell of how things are moving along at the top of each workday. We will then start/continue our work, and I will leave my Zoom channel open so you can observe me throughout the morning and ask questions if they come up. You can leave your video on or off throughout this period. If you leave it on make sure your camera is focused on your workstation so I can observe and offer periodical feedback.

  • 12:30 pm EST

The class will reconvene at 12:30 pm daily (after a short lunch break from 12-12:30) via our Zoom link to proceed with our afternoon demonstrations. We will then continue our work, and I will leave my Zoom channel open so you can observe me throughout the afternoon and ask questions if they come up.

  • 2 pm EST

We will gather to discuss any issues and check-in before closing our day. Make sure to write any questions that come up as you continue to work independently to discuss them in the morning.

On our last day, Saturday,October 12, in addition to our regular check-ins we will discuss surface possibilities and ideas as well as firing schedules and drying strategies. This will be our last meeting before our four-week break. Make sure to continue taking notes and participating in the community, and e-mail me with any questions.

NOVEMBER 10 (SUNDAY)

  • 10 am-1 pm EST

We will meet to share our work: our struggles, successes, and overall impressions! Together we will offer a space for celebration and constructive criticism around our projects as well as ideas for the next steps in continuing down the figurative ceramics or slab building path.

"So impressed by this class and your eye for detail and encouragement!"

--Sarah McNutt

I'm so grateful to have been able to be a part of your virtual class. You were super organized and thoughtful about meeting the needs of your students, from generously giving us access to other of your online classes to recording the sessions ahead of time in case of online glitches. The recordings were fantastic and reflected your wonderful teaching skills, i.e. going into detail about each step of the process. I wouldn't have changed a thing about the way you presented the course. It would be wonderful to come to NC for an in-person class with you (and get more personal feedback, too difficult to do online), but in the meantime, I'll always be looking forward to a future one online with you. I learned SO MUCH. Thank you!!

Cristina generously shared her techniques for capturing detail, her understanding of the full figure, and her artistic journey. I feel honored to have been able to take her class.

What worked well:
- I hadn’t done work before with figures formed with hollow cylinders, slip, and calipers. Having before-class access to your video tutorials allowed me to re-watch segments and slowly develop basic techniques that helped me keep pace with the live-streamed class.
- The simple but precise armature and the photographic record of the model were REALLY effective for completing the work, particularly how the two were correlated.
- the session on the work and inspiration of each of my classmates was very nice and really helped fill in what we lost with a virtual class.

Gracias Cristina por la clase tan MARAVILLOSA!
